Agway True Value of Ballston Spa Helps Hedgerow’s Garden Grow

RISE would like to give a huge thank you to Agway True Value of Ballston Spa for their support of the Hedgerow House Garden. Every year Agway True Value donates a flat of vegetables and flowers to help get the garden started.

“They are such a great support to our program,” says Julianne Thomas, Hedgerow House Director,  “in addition to supporting our garden each year, at Christmas time they donate a beautiful Christmas tree to the house. We greatly appreciate their generosity.”

Agway True Value of Ballston Spa is locally owned and operated by the Wallace Family. They have been in the Ballston Spa community for 100 years! RISE appreciates their contributions and support of our programs.

Hedgerow House would also like to thank “Hippie Sean” Roth, as he is known in the recovery community, for volunteering his time to rototill the garden. He also rototilled Theresa Knorr’s garden in exchange for her donation of seeds and plants to the Hedgerow House garden. Theresa is the former Hedgerow House Director. Thank you Hippie Sean and thank you Theresa Knorr!

RISE staff members also responded to the request for seeds, herbs, and vegetables. Hedgerow House would like to thank the following staff members for their generosity and support: Harlan Hall, Paula Tancredi Penman, Matt Durham, and Vita Nemeyer.

The garden is a big part of recovery at Hedgerow House. Working in the garden is therapeutic for individuals in recovery. It also provides a sense of accomplishment and self-wroth for the residents who work in the garden who literally get to enjoy the fruits (and vegetables) of their labor.  As Julianne often says, “that garden has saved lives.”

Thank you again AGAWAY True Value and to everyone who has helped the Hedgerow House Garden off to a wonderful start!
