Congratulations to Katrina Sherman, the recipient of the February Staff on the Rise recognition. Katrina was promoted to Program Supervisor at Rain House in October 2021. She is dedicated and provides quality care to the individuals we serve. “I enjoy working at Rain House,” Katrina says. “I look forward to learning, growing, and doing well in my new position so that I can helped those we serve be successful in meeting their goals and living safely in our community.”
“Working relief at Rain House, peaked my interested in this field and fit my beliefs about how I would like to be able to help others.”
Katrina started with RISE as relief staff in January 2017. Katrina shares, “I had no prior experiencing or knowledge of this flied, but I knew I wanted to have a job where I could help people. While working relief, I discovered I really enjoyed working with the residents. It peaked my interested in this field and fit my beliefs about how I would like to be able to help others. I found it fulfilling to contribute towards the residents’ successes and decided I want to make this type of work a career, so I started working full-time at Rain House.”
Jackie Knowles, Rain House Program Director, says, “Katrina is very a dedicated. She strives to ensure the individuals we serve are well taken care of and their needs are met. She is compassionate, creative, and organized. Katrina genuinely cares for the residents and works with them to develop and achieve their individual goals. She is flexible and willing to take on additional responsibilities or change her schedule to cover open shifts, including weekends and overnights, when necessary.”
“One of the things I like best about working in a community residence is helping make life easier for the individuals we serve.”
As the program supervisor, Katrina oversees the residents’ medication administration and monitoring the medication charting for documentation errors. Katrina other administrative duties include coordinating residents’ food stamps and organizing staff and resident trainings. She is a primary counselor for at least one resident. And, of course, she is involved in the day to day running of the program which includes, overseeing meals, monitoring the residents as they take their medications, monitoring the residents provider appointments, overseeing chores, and maintaining the general cleaning of the residence.
Katrina says, “due to the staff shortage, my schedule is all over the place right now as I fill in where I’m needed in the program. I am often here by myself, so I have to juggle my program supervisor duties with seeing to the residents’ needs.” But once Rain House is fully staffed and she is in a more permanent schedule, Katrina will be able to focus on her learning and growing in her responsibilities as the program supervisor, which will eventually include supervising two residential counselors.
“One of the things I like best about working in a community residence is helping make life easier for the individuals we serve and helping them better themselves and live their best lives,” Katrina shares. “In my new position as the program supervisor, I enjoy having more oversight of the program and a voice in making the program run more efficiently.” Katrina hopes to utilize her position to offer more to the clients to help them in their successes and meeting their goals. “I like that we individualize the services we provide based on the individual’s needs and where they are at when developing their individual service plans. I hope to take this a step further in helping tailor in-house programs to assist them even further.”
“I enjoy living a simple life and spending time with my family, our three dogs, and our chickens.”
The desire to provide the best services as possible comes from a strong work ethic that Katrina developed by modeling the example her parents set. “I come from a long family line of hard-working people,” she explains. “I can only hope to do the same and instill the same ethics in my children.”
Katrina is married and has two daughters and a step-daughter. “I enjoy living a simple life and spending time with my family, our three dogs, and our chickens.” Katrina and her family like to spend as much time as they can outside. They have a camp in Newcomb and enjoy staying in their cabin there. “We like to build bon fires, and play with the kids in the yard,” she shares. Additionally, they enjoy having game nights and bonding as a family. “I also like to tend my garden,” Katrina says, “and in the fall, bake zucchini bread with the harvest.”
RISE administration appreciates all that Katrina does for the agency and for the individuals we serve. She is caring, compassionate, and dedicated – all the qualities of a Staff on the Rise. Please join us in congratulating her as the recipient of the February Staff on the Rise recognition.
