“How Ten Global Cities Tackle Homelessness, Innovations that Work”
A global look and discussion on the causes of and solutions to homelessness in a book talk by author Linda Gibbs
3:30 p.m. Friday October 8 at Caffe Lena, 47 Phila Street, Saratoga Springs
Linda Gibbs is the author of How Ten Global Cities Take On Homelessness, Innovations that Work, published this year by University of California Press. Gibbs served as New York City Deputy Mayor of Health and Human Services from 2005 to 2013, and is now a Principal for Social Services at Bloomberg Associates, a not-for profit consultancy serving Mayors in achieving their vision in meeting unique municipal challenges.
“We are fortunate and honored to be able to host Ms. Gibbs for this event,” said Andy Gilpin, co-chair of the Alliance, and Executive Director of CAPTAIN Community Human Services, “and to bring her expertise and unique perspective to the leaders and staff of dozens of regional agencies that are part of the Alliance. Her authoritative and fascinating book shows how the problems of homelessness in different cities around the world have much in common, and can teach us so much right here in upstate New York.”
Gilpin added, “we are also glad to be able to open the talk to the general public thanks to Caffe Lena’s livestreaming capability.” Reservations to attend the event, live at Caffe Lena, may be made at www.caffelena.org, said Sarah Craig, Executive Director. Proof of full COVID19 vaccination is required to attend the live event. Instructions to connect to the livestream will be available on the website at the time of Ms. Gibbs’s talk. Copies of Gibbs’s book will be available for sale at the Caffe, or may be ordered through Northshire books.

The Alliance encourages increasing participation by state, county and local government, community leaders, non-profit organizations, housing developers, service providers, and persons with a lived experience of homelessness.
Caffe Lena, dedicated since 1960 to independent music and the exchange of ideas, regularly hosts community forums on topics of civic interest.
