The Healing Springs Recovery Community and Outreach Center will be hosting a Narcan Training and handing out Stay Healthy Backpacks at the Navigation Center on Friday, February 26 at 10:00 am. The Navigation Center is located at 31 Woodlawn Avenue, next to The Salvation Army.
This training is being sponsored by members of the Saratoga County Alliance to End Homelessness Outreach Committee which includes Transitional Services Association, CAPTAIN Community Human Services, Healing Springs Recovery Community and Outreach Center, The Salvation Army, and Shelters of Saratoga.
Narcan is a brand name for naloxone, a medication designed to rapidly reverse opioid overdose. It can very quickly restore normal respiration to a person whose breathing has slowed or stopped as a result of overdosing with heroin or prescription opioid pain medications.
All individuals who utilize the services of the Navigation Center are invited to come to the training to learn how to administer Narcan. Healing Springs Recovery Community and Outreach Center also offers Narcan training to anyone in the community the second Tuesday of every month or you can call and request a time and place.
The Healthy Backpacks contain hats, gloves, masks, bars of soap, socks, hot hands and hot feet packets, emergency blankets and Narcan kits. The supplies in the backpack are provided from a generous donation made to the TSA Care Management Hygiene Pantry by Jaeger & Flynn. The number of backpacks is limited and will be distributed on a first come first serve basis. If there is a high demand, additional Narcan Training/Stay Healthy Backpacks Distribution will be scheduled in the future.
The Navigation Center at 31 Woodlawn Avenue is open daily from 9 am to noon for guests to meet with service providers. Healing Springs Recovery Community and Outreach Center is located at 125 High Rock Avenue 105A (entrance off back parking lot– blue awning) and has a robust calendar of events.
